Our best guess is that this was a misguided attempt at straightening a tree, a misguided attempt at killing a tree or someone having fun with mixed media. The Treeist often finds trees slowly consuming rocks that are near the roots or lodged in the union of codominant leads. This is an unusual situation that the homeowner found quirky enough to keep. We did recommend removing the wire as it will eventually girdle the tree causing premature decline & likely significant structural issues.
