    Tree Health Care Specialist 

 

Reports to:    Crew Director


Job Summary:

The Tree Health Care Specialist is a unique and vital role for the Treeist. The ideal candidate has a passion for preserving and maintaining the urban forest in our area, working closely with our clientele to establish maintenance plans applicable to our area, the present pests, and any future land management that the homeowner might have in mind. The THCS will also organize and maintain any planting projects within the company - working closely with the consultants to ensure adequate and appropriate ordering, timing, and establishment of plantings. In order to succeed, THCS needs to be self-motivated, excited, ready to work within all weather conditions, and able to maintain a professional demeanor in the face of some serious strenuous activity. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Read and understand work order prior to the departure from the lot each day, asking questions and seeking clarification as necessary. 

  • Conduct pre-departure checks to ensure all work equipment arrives at the job site in working order and ready to use.

  • Exercise independent thinking in order to ensure a smooth and positive work day: maintaining motivation of self throughout the day, preserving communication between relevant parties, establishing contact with clients and meeting expectations. 

  • Create and maintain a working inventory of all ready-to-plant trees, keeping tabs on consultant sales and ensuring we have the appropriate product. Additionally, maintaining the health of these specimens while they are in our care. 

  • Create and maintain a working inventory of all applicable chemicals and necessary THCS equipment. Ensuring proper ordering and storage in anticipation of yearly needs. 

  • Orchestrate with the office the best work days to plant and conduct THCS operations, keeping in mind scheduling, weather, and time of year. 

  • Conduct all health care and planting activities : digging, transporting, planting, and cleaning up. 

  • Maintain a constant learning-mindset, thereby maximizing on any and all learning opportunities as afforded by the work order and work-day timing.  

  • Effectively maintain work-zone safety and security. This includes non-invasive vehicle parking, proper traffic signage, and effective cone placement.

  • Should the situation allow, assist in treecrew operations as needed, should a crew need an extra hand or stump grinding jobs not fill an entire work week. 

  • Assist in all equipment and vehicle maintenance, recording all work done properly.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proven ability to represent the company in all client-facing interactions. 

  • Constant display of organization and cleanliness, ensuring proper operating order of all tools and machinery. 

  • Continual proper use of all personal protection equipment, as well as the ability to ensure other team members are also adhering to all PPE protocols. 

  • A background in dendrology or native species work is a bonus but not required. More important is a willingness to learn and an appreciation for the reason we’re doing this job in the first place. 

  • Knowledge and use of chemicals and chemical plant care. Again, not required, but there’s an element of safety and responsibility with this position and we need to know you take it seriously. 

  • Timeliness and reliability. 

  • The ability to physically lift and manipulate 50 pounds unaided.
