Living With Trees

Why: This class is perfect for someone who lives near or among trees & will provide valuable skills to improve their life among the trees. 

What you will learn:

- Basic Tree Identification & Risk Assessment 

- How binoculars & laser pointers can increase effective tree related communication 

- How to tie 5 useful knots in rope & twine 

- How to use an Arborist Throw Line Kit (an effective tool that everyone should have)

- How to safely remove dead limbs from trees with a Throw Line (from the ground, no climbing required) 

- How to build & install tree swings with a Throw Line (from the ground, no climbing required)

- How to hang bird feeders in trees with a Throw Line (from the ground, no climbing required) 

- That trees provide fun & valuable recreation activities

- Opportunities to turn your new skill into a side business or simply help around the house/community

Class Structure: 

- All classes are taught by David Ricks & have a student teacher ratio of 4:1

- You will be walking, standing & sitting intermittently while using basic hand tools, tying knots in rope, pulling both thin & thick rope

- You will be given the opportunity to purchase any of the tools used in the class (we will also provide links to products used during the class should you wish to purchase at online retailers) 

 

When: 4 class offerings in Jan 2023

1. Living With Trees Class A: $40 for a total of 4 hours of training during 1 class. 4 spots available for each class. 

Class Date & Time: Saturday 1/7 (1pm to 5pm)

2. Living With Trees Class B: $40 for a total of 4 hours of training during 1 class. 4 spots available for each class.  

Class Date & Time: Sunday 1/8 (1pm to 5pm)

3. Living With Trees Class C: $40 for a total of 4 hours of training during 1 class. 4 spots available for each class.  

Class Date & Time: Saturday 1/21 (1pm to 5pm)

4. Living With Trees Class D: $40 for a total of 4 hours of training during 1 class. 4 spots available for each class.  

Class Date & Time: Sunday 1/22 (1pm to 5pm)

This class is held OUTSIDE

What to Bring & Wear:

- Water & Snacks 

- Closed toe shoes (ideally a hiking-type shoe that covers your ankle) 

- Clothing that can move with you (fitness, yoga, hiking, workout, etc.)

Age & Ability Range:

- Classes designed for ages 15 and up 

- Folks younger than 15 can attend the class with an adult that will help the child follow along in the class

- Both the adult & the child should pay the class fee

- You'll likely have success in the class if you're able to get up from a seated position on the floor with 1 hand or less & can walk up a small flight of stairs with little to moderate fatigue 

Risk: 
- Tree related injuries are almost entirely associated with A.) the improper use of cutting tools while working with trees & B.) a lack of personal protective equipment 
- We will not be using cutting tools 

- We will be providing & using proper personal protective equipment

Waiver: 

- All participants will be required to sign a physical copy of our Waiver prior to participating in Classes or Events.

- Minors will require a guardian's signature
