The Treeist Training Facility

Tree Identification, Risk Assessment & Climb Line Installation for Tree Climbers

We believe trees offer valuable opportunities for recreation, fitness, meditation or work. For these reasons, we believe tree climbing should be as ubiquitous as riding a bike. Our mission is to help our community learn to safely climb & appreciate these beautiful structures!

About the event

This class is perfect for someone who is new to climbing trees & folks who've either attended our previous climbing classes OR have been climbing on their own for a bit.

Class Structure:

- We will chat while walking around The Treeist Training Facility & David's wooded property nearby

We will learn:

- How to identify 5 common species of trees that we (Treeists) climb & work on

- How to do a basic pre-climb tree risk assessment on each species of tree

- Species specific considerations for tree health/tree risk

- Species specific considerations for climbing (where do I put my rope in this tree?)

- Species specific considerations for bidding tree work (this will be helpful for folks looking to start their tree world side hustle :)

Will there be ANY climbing?:

- Yes, we'll have a few trees to climb as always :)

What to Bring & Wear:

- Water & Snacks that you may need for the duration of the class

- Closed toe shoes (ideally a hiking-type shoe that covers your ankle)

- Clothing that can move with you (fitness, yoga, hiking, workout, etc.)

Age & Ability Range:

- Classes are designed for ages 15 and up

- Folks younger than 15 can attend the class with an adult that will help the child follow along in the class (not a "drop off" class for kiddos)

- Tree climbing tends to work different muscles than other activities (good thing!)

- You'll likely have success in the class if you're able to get up from a seated position on the floor with 1 hand or less & can walk up a small flight of stairs with little to moderate fatigue
